Why cabinets are their own kind of job

Cabinets get touched, bumped and wiped down every day, so they need more care than a wall does. Doors and drawer fronts are cleaned of kitchen grease, sanded and primed so the finish bonds to the surface and does not chip at the first knock.

The details decide whether painted cabinets look factory finished or look painted over: clean edges, no drips in the panel corners, and hardware that goes back on straight.

Good candidates for painting

Solid wood and well built cabinet boxes are worth painting. Oak, maple and older site built cabinets are common in homes around Sioux Falls and they take paint well. If a cabinet is water damaged or coming apart, we will tell you that before you spend money painting it.
